Ensemble romantic comedy The Big Wedding tells the story of long divorced Don (Robert De Niro) and Ellie Griffin (Diane Keaton) who pretend they are still married at their adopted son’s wedding in order to please the guest of honor, his ultra conservative birth mother. Katherine Heigl plays Lyla, Don and Ellie’s daughter and sister to the groom.

Working with director Garry Marshall on New Year’s Eve was a dream come true, Katherine Heigl explained during an interview to promote the December 9 release of the ensemble comedy. "He is sort of the epitome of romantic comedies and it is my favorite genre – surprise!" she quipped. "I’ve just really have always wanted to either meet him or get to work with him and so it was such a dream for me to get to be a part of this."

Katherine Heigl’s latest movie “The Wedding”, also known as “The Big Wedding”, has been shooting in the Greenwich, Connecticut area since early in July. Local landmarks such as the Burning Tree Country Club, Gabriele’s Italian Steakhouse and Christ Church have all featured as production locations.

Lionsgate has acquired the US and UK distribution rights to the ensemble comedy "The Wedding" a.k.a "The Big Wedding" which Katherine Heigl is currently shooting in Greenwich, Connecticut. The studio has scheduled a theatrical opening of October 19, 2012 for the film.
