Visiting The Helen Woodward Animal Center
During her visit to San Diego recently for the Petco Foundation Gala, Katherine Heigl took the opportunity to visit the Helen Woodward Animal Center.

Accompanied by her mother Nancy Heigl, with whom she co-founded the Jason Heigl Foundation, the pair got to see first hand the wonderful work undertaken by the unique, private, non-profit organization that has for over 40 years been committed to the philosophy of people helping animals and animals helping people.
On Sunday, June 21st, Katherine and Nancy along with their dogs Gracie Lou and Jello, visited the Center's campus in Rancho Santa Fe. President Mike Arms gave the Heigl's a tour of the twelve acre campus featuring many adoptable dogs and cats who were thrilled to meet the animal-loving duo.
Katherine spent some snuggle time with Nick, a lovable 'skunk' kitten (he has a white stripe down his black coat!), and Picasso the green-eyed gent still waiting for his forever home. Nancy maintained a long 'conversation' with Karma, an adult Australian Shepherd blend, who relayed everything that has occurred in her canine life to date.

Along the way, Katherine and Nancy also met 'Angel', the Center's miracle foal and many of the other therapy horses and farm friends. They also toured the state-of-the art equine and companion animal hospital, humane education department, and received an overview of the AniMeals program that helps homebound seniors care for their pets.
Please visit the Helen Woodward Animal Center to find out more about their work.
Hello, I’m so hoping that Katherine will see this message. I belong to several anti declawing groups & looking for help to voice the message of how vile declawing is. Declawing needs to be banging the U.S. like it is in so many countries. It’s a cruel, evil, crippling surgery that leaves the animal in physical & mental pain for life. It’s proven that a large number of surrenders are declawed & surrounded because of behavior problems due to the surgery. The only reason it’s allowed in the U.S. is because of money. I don’t know if your a member or supporter of the Paw Project but we need voices to help spread the word that declawing is animal abuse & needs to be banned. Thank you, Kim
