Katherine
Heigl: The Prettiest of Aliens
The heroine of "Roswell" has become the new teen idol. American teens
return to embark with her for Mars. At 22 years old, Katherine Heigl sees her career take
off like a rocket, thanks to "Roswell". A rise which doesnt make her
giddy
Télé Star: Since you became Isabel in "Roswell", do
you believe in extra-terrestrials?
Katherine: Im asked, its true, several questions about
that. "And so finally there are things elsewhere?" Perhaps I would have some
brief replies if I met the people who claim to have proof of extraterrestrial
manifestations. But I have never had that chance.
Télé Star: Without having seen a UFO, the success of the series must
have changed your life, no?
Katherine: Ive been in this business since I was ten. Therefore,
I was more prepared than the others for what would knock us in the heads one day or
another. But yes, my life has changed a little: I find photographers hiding below my
house, I have to control my attitudes, not be too demonstrative with my boyfriend
That said, I assure you, I dont have too many worries. And then, like many have told
me, if I dont want to see my private life more or less in the public domain, all I
have to do is change careers.
Télé Star: As a teen, were you as cool?
Katherine: (She bursts out laughing.) You want to laugh! I was the
clumsy, uncomfortable in my skin. I used to have a very large waist and I was shaped like
a lemon: no chest, no hips. From the beginning to the end of middle school, when I got to
the locker room for gym, everyone made fun of me. For two years, I prayed every night for
my breasts to appear. My physical transformation happened when I was seventeen, in 1995.
When I finished filming "Under Siege 2", I had become more womanly, more sure of
myself. I remember coming to high school and planting myself in front of the boys and
saying, "Now its my turn to laugh!" My attitude had changed to the point
where a lot of people thought I was strange.
Télé Star: How so?
Katherine: You know, in New Canaan, the little town in Connecticut
where I was born, the people are pretty much conformists. And, of course, when they saw me
wearing red worn out shoes and a jean jacket with the skyline of New York in rhinestones
on the back, they thought I was crazy.
Télé Star: But who did that leave you to go out with?
Katherine: My mom! She told me, "Believe me, its very
cool." You know, today she can always count on me following her fashion advice!
