Organ donation was a plot point on the April 10 episode of
Grey's Anatomy. For cast member Katherine Heigl, 26, who
plays intern Isobel Stevens, the subject matter hit close to
home. Katherine's older brother Jason was killed in a tragic car
accident in her family's hometown of New Canaan, Conn., in 1986
when he was 15.
"When we realized he was not going to survive, the family
decided it was important to donate his organs," Katherine's mom,
Nancy Heigl, tells Star". "Jason's heart, kidneys and eyes were
given - whatever could be used by someone in need. It was
Jason's last gift to a world he had the greatest affection for." |
