"Roswell" Star Finds Little To-'Do at UPN
PASADENA, Calif. - "Roswell" star Katherine Heigl's discovered an unexpected bonus for moving from the WB to UPN: It's much easier to get a haircut.

Heigl, the towering beauty who plays teen alien Isabel Evans on the sci-fi drama, showed up here to talk with television critics about the series' second season with a stylish short 'do that would probably have caused apoplexy on her former network, which pretty much banned anything but split-end trims for its female stars after "Felicity's" Keri Russell cut hers and the show's ratings took a dive.

"Cutting hair is a simple thing - it's just, you know, what people have to say that makes it difficult," Heigl said. "WB was very. . .clear, I think, about how they felt about it, and I actually cut my hair for a part, thinking the show was canceled."

Now that the show's been picked up by UPN as part of its deal to lure "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" - both shows are produced by 20th Century Fox - Heigl's finding a more relaxed attitude about hair at the home of "WWF Smackdown."

"Everybody's been really great about it," she said.
