School Style

Did you ever break out of the preppy image?

For about a month I went for a dramatic look by doing the whole Cleopatra eye thing and piling my hair up on my head with bobby pins.

Any lucky outfits you'd wear on test days?

Well, I did have my favorite outfit, which I still keep in a drawer. It's a pair of Banana Republic jeans, a Land's End flannel red-and-black plaid shirt and a big, oatmeal-colored J. Crew cable knit sweater that's falling apart now.

Did you have any hot teachers you'd dress up for?

There was this one history teacher who was really cute. One day I came to school dressed to the nines. I was wearing black jeans and a black, button-down shirt--everything was black, which no one did in Connecticut. I strutted down the hall, chatting with this teacher. That is, until this girl came up to me and asked, "Why are you so dressed up?" I was so offended.

What was the first day back at school like?

School began at 7:45 a.m. and at 6:00 a.m. my friends would come over to get ready. It was this big production, and of course we had picked out our outfits the week before. Unfortunately, it did sort of become the theme of high school--what people were wearing--which was a little pathetic.
