"There were definitely no nose rings at my school," says Katherine (her friends call her Katie) Heigl, age 21, of the public school she attended in posh New Canaan, Connecticut. "It was such a preppy place that if anyone dressed alternatively they probably would've been sent to the principal's office."

In other words, Katie's classmates looked like they jumped off the pages of an Abercrombie & Fitch catalog. Which is something she misses now that she's moved to L.A. "I try not to get too caught up in how casual it is here because I don't like looking sloppy," she admits. Besides dress-code stress, life in Tinseltown is going smoothly for Katie. She's geared up for a new season of "Roswell" and will be in the indie flick 100 Girls, in which she plays a tomboy who's the object of Jonathon Tucker's affection.
