Don’t hold your breath for a career change for Heigl, though.
Dr. Katherine Heigl is not something that will be happening
anytime soon. "Some of it can be interesting and kind of fun,
like a science project," Heigl says. "But the other day we did a
scene with pig intestines and it was so disgusting, it smelled
really weird… I really thought I was going to hurl!"
There are pluses to working with animal innards, though.
Starring opposite the rather delectable Patrick Dempsey can’t be
bad. "I love Patrick!" Heigl says. "I mean, come on! He’s dreamy
and everybody is just all over that!" Sounds like she might have
had an eye on him at one time. "Who didn’t?" Heigl says. "Every
girl my age used to watch Can't Buy Me Love and those shows
[and] totally had a crush on him! He is this person who wakes up
in the morning and is just charming."
So, is there a charmer in Heigl’s love life? With a hectic
schedule filming for Grey’s and her role in the
soon-to-be-released Johnny Knoxville comedy The Ringer, you’d be
forgiven for thinking Heigl wouldn’t have the chance to meet
anyone, but this girl is an excellent multi-tasker. "I don’t
think it’s terribly hard," she says. "I think if I was Jennifer
Aniston it would be very pretty hard to meet a guy who isn’t
just after your fame or your money. It would be difficult to
know why they are interested." So is there a special someone?
Yep. "He’s a musician!" Heigl says. "His name is
Josh Kelley, and
his CD is coming out on Aug.23. It’s a really great CD. We met
at work. Soon I will be proclaiming it from the rooftops, but
[it has only been] a little while."
Her relationship with Kelley has opened Heigl’s eyes to
another world of entertainment. "I get to be around the music
world a little bit," Heigl says. "It is such a different beast
but at the same time [it’s] entertainment, and it’s been
fascinating. I was trailing him around on tour, and it was just
fascinating to watch the process and see all the work you have
to do. It was kind of watching someone else’s world in
entertainment and seeing how different and yet how the same it
was."
Not only is her boyfriend a talented musician, he is a
talented musician from Georgia. But he is not Heigl’s only tie
to the South; her dad lives in Atlanta. "He’s been there for
three years now and he loves it. He plays tennis every day. At
one point he had a motorcycle. He’s just really enjoying it,"
she says. And just like her dad, Heigl is a fan of Atlanta as
well. "I’ve only been once," she says. "I’m excited to go back
because I had a really good time when I was there." Well, she
can rest assured that Atlanta will be waiting with open arms for
her return!
