Extract

The press scooted upstairs and, of course, it was the usual suspects, a couple of people from Sci-Fi, Suni from Coming Attractions, Simon from Starburst, Anthony Ferrante from Eon, and then a couple of other guys.....

For Katherine Heigl, it was just myself and Suni. and when we walked in to meet her, Katherine’s mother was there as well. Katherine Heigl is extremely beautiful in person, there’s no other way to describe her. She is simply gorgeous.

Interview

Question: Did Blanks ask you to watch anything to set up your main sequence in the film?

Katherine Heigl: He actually didn’t have me do much studying or much viewing of other projects, but he’d talk a lot about what he had in mind and his vision, which was, to me, very wonderful because he’s so passionate about it, which is great.

Question: When you came on to this project, did you know you’d be first sequence and out?

Katherine Heigl: Yeah. That would’ve been terrible, "What, you cut me in the first fifteen minutes?"

Question: Were you trying out for any of the other parts?

Katherine Heigl: No, actually, it worked out very well for me because I didn’t have the time to do anything else, because I was working and all I had were the three days. It worked out very well.

Question: Have you seen the picture yet?

Katherine Heigl: I’ve seen forty minutes of it. I unfortunately had to run and go to work that day, so I couldn’t see the whole thing, but it looks great.

Question: So you saw your part?

Katherine Heigl: I got to see my part, but I didn’t get to see the next death and I was really excited to see it. So, I’m excited to see it.

Question: Were you happy with the way you died?

Katherine Heigl: Yeah, it was a great death. But there was so much more blood and it was so great, it was really graphic. Oh, that may not be so good for the kids out there, but God, did we really milk it when we shot it. It was so good, but they had to cut it down. They had to cut the blood and stuff, but it was great because I spent three hours of them putting the prosthetic...I probably shouldn’t say...

Question: They showed it downstairs on the reel.

Katherine Heigl: Yeah. So they spent three hours putting this thing on, so when I lifted up my head, it looked like my neck... (leans her head back showing us where her throat gets slashed) it was disgusting! It was great, you know, but they didn’t show it because the studio thought it was a bit much. It was really gruesome.

Question: Do you like doing genre stuff or is it something you’re offered generally because of Bride of Chucky, Roswell, and now Valentine?

Katherine Heigl: It’s been more coincidence than anything else. I really just enjoy working on things that I’m passionate about and they all happen to be characters I really love. Bride of Chucky for me was a lot about getting to do a big studio film and working with some really interesting people like Ronny Yu and Peter Pau the director of photography, but most of it has come around because of chance and developing characters I really like, so I went for it.
