Katherine Heigl
Round 2 - Valentine Junketeering
Katherine Heigl was the fourth and final actor/actress fed to the press on the junket
date and though Id talked with her at the L.A. Comic Con, here we were again. Again,
one of the most beautiful actresses Ive gotten to interview (though Embeth Davidtz
still reigns supreme to some degree) and, like the last time, rather forthcoming about her
interest in gore.
She was also munching Dots and got them caught in her teeth as she talked with us, but
hey, she brought enough for the whole class.
Question: So you were victim number one...
Katherine: I was. It was a very interesting experience, actually to get to be
that character that gets to surprise the audience with the first death. It was fun.
Question: How long did you have to lie in that body bag?
Katherine: Very briefly, because I was not thrilled to be there. I dont
have a claustrophobia problem generally, but when they zipped that bag up and made a joke,
"Lets go to lunch, guys," I was like, "Aaahhh, get me out!" It
was actually very peaceful.
Question: What was the best part about filming that scene?
Katherine: I had a lot of fun doing the action part the running down the
hall, the slipping, the falling. We did all that in about an hour, just running around.
Im not generally a very active person. I was never into sports, I dont do
extreme things. I keep saying that I should go hiking, but its not happening. But
that was really fun for me. I enjoy the being physical, the active part of it, the really
getting into it and having to run screaming down the hall. It was kind of cool. And then
the neck scene was really fun.
Question: Was the knife he had some kind of medical instrument?
Katherine: He just "had that" on him.
Question: How did they shoot the neck scene?
Katherine: It was really, really fussy, actually, and they cut it down so much
that I was almost a little disappointed, even though Im not a real advocate for
violence. I dont like a lot of violence. I just recently saw Se7en because I
couldnt stomach the idea of it. But I was disappointed that they cut so much of the
death scene out, because theyd done three hours work on this prosthetic neck piece
and whenever I lifted my head, it split and you could really see the cut. It was really
fascinating. They put little tubes underneath it that they would then use syringes to
inject blood into it and when the time came they had the guys pump the blood into those
little tubes and it would just spurt out. It was really graphic, really quite disgusting,
but they cut a lot of it out. A little too much. They cut out the shot of my neck actually
splitting. The part where he dragged the knife across my neck, I lifted my head so that
you could get that full effect and it was really gross. It was really cool. I loved it.
But again, Im not a violence person, but being a part of the process in the movie
magic part of it was really neat. |
