You Ask

Want to interview your favourite star? Well you can do just that in our new You Ask feature. This issue, Big! Reader Gillian Richards interviews My Father The Hero’s Katherine Heigl:

Describe Yourself!

"I’m 15 and I’ve just appeared in the movie My Father The Hero with Dalton James and Gerard Dépardieu. Before that I had smaller roles in two other movies and I’ve done commercials. I’ve also modelled in various US magazines like Seventeen."

Did you always want to be an actress?

"Yeah, pretty much so. When I was little I used to love playing pretend with my friends. And when I started auditioning for movies it was weird because it was almost like playing pretend again. I love acting though, it’s exactly what I want to do."

What was your co-star Dalton James like?

"He was like a big brother. He wasn’t like an egotistical, snobby kind of guy…well, he could be at times but most of the time he was really nice and friendly."

Did you fancy him?

"Yeah, of course. At first it was like ‘Oh my God, he is so cute’, but then I got to know him and we were just friends."

Were your friends jealous of you snogging Dalton James?

"Oh they’d always say little things joking around like, ‘Oh we hate you’. But they were all really excited for me."

Would you like to go out with him in real life?

"No, because he’s 23 and I’m 15. I think I’ll stick to people my own age."

What was your big kissing scene like? Was it embarrassing?

"Yeah, this was my first screen kiss and I was like, ‘Ahhhh’. It was mortifying. I just felt I was going to do something wrong, make myself look stupid. But I can’t think about it now without laughing."

Have you got a boyfriend?

"Yeah, his name is Baptiste and we’ve been going out for about three months. I don’t know what’s going to happen though; it’s a bit rocky. But I miss him when I’m away."

Do you think you’ve missed out on normal teenage things through being in films?

"Er, no…there’s not actually that much to miss out on. I attend a public high school in Connecticut and I go to most of the parties and see my friends all the time. And I’m always on the phone so I don’t miss out on anything. Besides we don’t even do that much. I’m only a freshman."

Do people try to be your friends now because you’re famous?

"Yeah, there is a little bit of that. There are always people who I didn’t talk to before who are a little more friendly now."

What do you do in your spare time?

"Nothing major…I go to school, do homework. I don’t watch much TV except when 90210 is on. I like Jason Priestly because he is the nicest of the bunch. And I love The New Adventures Of Superman, it’s great – and that guy Dean Cain is sooo cute."
