Katherine Heigl was a guest on CBS Daytime show The Talk today where she sat down with the hosts to talk family and animal advocacy.

The conversation began with Katherine discussing her life with husband Josh Kelley and their two daughters Naleigh and Adalaide, before turning to the work of her charity the Jason Debus Heigl Foundation. She told the audience that over 3 million cats and dogs are euthanized every year in the United States and explained the initiatives being undertaken by her animal welfare organization to help address this horrific statistic.

Sochi & Adler: Homeward Bound

It has been a long journey in both distance and time for Sochi and Adler, two adorable stray pups rescued by staff from the United States Winter Olympics Team off the streets of their Russian hometown in February.

Thankfully, with the help of Katherine Heigl’s animal welfare charity the Jason Debus Heigl Foundation it is a journey with a happy ending, as both dogs have been adopted and are heading to loving homes!

Alfre Woodard To Play President

Alfre Woodard has been cast as the President of the United States in Katherine’s upcoming CIA / political drama State Of Affairs.

State Of Affairs

Woodard will play President Constance Payton, who hires perfectionist Charleston "Charlie" Whitney Tucker (Katherine Heigl) – her late son’s ex-girlfriend, to be her legal briefer.

Woodard is an Oscar nominee, a Golden Globe winner, and has received numerous Emmy nominations, including four wins for her work in Hill Street Blues, L.A. Law, Miss Evers’ Boys and The Practice. Other credits include St. Elsewhere, True Blood, Homicide: Life on the Street and Desperate Housewives, as well the 2014 Oscar best picture winner 12 Years a Slave.

State Of Affairs Cast Announcements

NBC has announced several new cast members for Katherine Heigl's new CIA drama pilot, "State Of Affairs" in which she stars as Charleston Whitney Tucker, a key CIA attaché who counsels the president on high-stakes incidents around the world.

Adam Kaufman (Without A Trace) is set to play Lucas Newsome, a CIA analyst on the President's daily briefing team, where he will be joined by Sheila Vand (Argo) who will take on the role of Maureen James, a tough individual who likes to keep her private life to herself.

Hollywood Heights alum Tommy Savas will join the cast in the series regular role of Dashiell Greer, the youngest member of the team, and Chicago-based theater actor Cliff Chamberlain will play Kurt Tannen, a quirky CIA linguist.

Broadway star Leslie Odom Jr. (Leap Of Faith) who can currently be seen on Person of Interest and Law & Order: SVU, will portray Chief of Staff Mitchell Manning.

Joe Carnahan (The Blacklist) will direct the pilot.
