News Roundup

TV Guide Magazine caught up with Tom Selleck recently and asked him about his role in Katherine’s new action comedy "Killers" which hits theatres next month:

The movie Killers with Katherine Heigl and Ashton Kutcher is being released June 4 do you get to show your funny side?

Yes, I get to play Katherine Heigl’s father, but I’m not just playing a dad. It’s quite interesting and complex and there are a lot of twists and turns. It’s a romantic / action / adventure film. I’m looking forward to seeing it.

Do you have a big role?

It is, I think. They put me in the trailer. [Laughs] We shot for 10 days in the south of France – that was kind of neat. And it was fun working with Ashton and Katherine.

Katherine Heigl told reporters at the Jason Debus Heigl Foundation and Last Chance For Animals press conference in Los Angeles yesterday that "We really want to open people’s eyes to be more compassionate, to be more aware, and helping us make sure this kind of thing doesn’t happen again."

She was referring to the harrowing case of a pit bull that was hog-tied and left to die in south Bakersfield about a week ago. Authorities arrested 52 year old James Worley last week on a felony charge of animal cruelty. He’s accused of torturing the pit bull and leaving it for dead.

Fighting Animal Abuse

The Jason Debus Heigl Foundation in conjunction with Last Chance For Animals and Kern County Animal Control, held a news conference today in Los Angeles to offer rewards to those who help bring animal abusers to justice.

The campaign which will be funded by the Heigl Foundation (co-founded by Katherine and her mother Nancy) was inspired by the harrowing case of "England", a dog in Bakersfield, California that was hog tied and left for dead in a muddy field.

Fortunately "England", who was named after one of the animal control officers, Kristen England, who rescued him in the area of Sandrini Road and Highway 99 south of Bakersfield on April 22nd, is making a good recovery from the ordeal. The dogs former owner James Worley, 52, of Bakersfield, has been arrested and faces a possible charge of felony animal cruelty.
