A few
months ago Katherine
spoke with US Weekly about how she and husband Josh Kelley
had been anxious when adopted daughter Naleigh still wasn’t
walking at 17 months.
"I think
Josh and I started to get like those obnoxious parents that are
a little, like, 'What's wrong with her? Why isn't she walking
yet? What are we doing wrong? Now we're, like, pushing her all
day: start walking! But I figured we're probably fine. She'll
start walking. [Then] I'll be like, "Why can't she sit down and
play quietly in the corner?'", Katherine said laughing.
Their
daughter, who will be 2 years old in November, has since taken
her first steps as she told reporters at the ASPCA ball on April
15th.
"Right
now, last weekend, she started getting the courage to walk more
on her own. She would walk, and she held our hands, and
sometimes she’d take a few Frankenstein steps, but now literally
something switched in her brain, and she was like ‘I’m going to
give this a go. We leave her to hang out, and suddenly you see
her, and she’s walking. It was astounding!"
Katie
also told Us Weekly that Naleigh was beginning to
extend her vocabulary. "She is starting to talk a little bit
more. She says Dada all the time. Of course that was her first
word... She points at me and says 'Dada' too. She thinks anyone
she loves is Dada. I will her to say Mama! She goes, 'Oh yeah'
all the time.. I think Josh and I do that a lot when we talk
about things and she picked it up."
