Isabel sits with Laurie, and tries to
keep Laurie from chewing her own bleeding hands. She asks Laurie what they did to her, but
Laurie will only say that she was in a mental hospital and shouldn’t have been,
because she’s not crazy. She is terrified when there is a knock on the door, and runs
to hide in Kyle’s room. It turns out to be Max and Michael, so Isabel tries to coax
Laurie out of hiding. While seeing Max is no problem, Laurie goes wild with terror when
she spots Michael, screaming "NO! You’re dead!" before escaping out the
window of Kyle’s room, and getting hit by a car as she tries to flee. She seems
unhurt, but just then Agent Duff and Valenti appear on the scene. Laurie points a finger
at Valenti and says that he told her that he’d keep her safe, but he was holding her
there for the aliens, who came to get her. Agent Duff then tells Valenti he’s off the
case.Max asks Kyle to steal from Valenti’s office the piece of rock that Michael
found. While searching, Kyle is caught by Agent Duff, but with Tess’s help, manages
to escape with the rock in his possession. Later, Isabel and Max enter the Crashdown and
find Michael, Tess, Kyle, and Liz present, and are immediately informed by Liz that
Valenti has been fired. Kyle turns over the rock, and tells them they have basically taken
over his and his father’s lives and have ruined any semblance of normalcy. He wants
Max to promise to stay away from his family, but Max can’t do it.
In Max’s room, Isabel, Max and Michael examine the rock. While Michael wonders
what it is, Isabel is mostly worried about Valenti. Max says Valenti gave up everything
for them, but Michael rationalizes that it was bad pay and long hours. They decide to
check out the rock further, and when Max puts it under a microscope, they discover strange
cells that are blue and pulsating.
Amy DeLuca shows up at Valenti’s door and takes him on a date to cheer him up.
Meanwhile, Tess prepares to leave, deeply affected by Kyle’s words at the Crashdown.
But Kyle begs her not to leave, saying she is his family, too. Tess tells Kyle he’s
her favorite human, and Kyle replies that Tess is his favorite Martian.
Michael and Isabel break into the basement of Pinecrest Psychiatric Hospital, where
Laurie had been a patient. Michael shows off by using his powers to break the basement
window, and Isabel calls him on it, saying, "You know, you could’ve just used
your foot." Once inside the basement, Michael cracks a file cabinet and finds a file
folder with Laurie’s name on it, but the folder is empty. Then Isabel discovers a bag
tagged with Laurie’s name, which she promptly opens, only to find a pile of old
photos. She is shocked to see a black-and-white picture of Michael in overalls, labeled
"Grandpa 1935." Isabel exclaims, "My God, that looks just like you!"
to which Michael replies, "That is me."
