Isabel starts unwrapping her presents,
and finds an unmarked gift. She opens it to discover a little green alien figurine, but no
one admits to giving it. Isabel has another vision, of driving toward a sign that says,
"Reds." She excuses herself, saying she has a headache, but Maria and Liz follow
her into the back room. Isabel begs for Marias car keys, to go search for the
missing Tess. Liz is uncertain that they should leave, since Max didnt approve it.
Isabel retorts with "Max isnt here," and she and Maria leave, telling Liz
to cover for them.At Valentis house, Max and Valenti are going through
Tesss address book, hoping to find a clue as to who might be responsible for her
disappearance. They check her cell phone and find that it lists the phone number of the
last call she received; Max dials it and discovers its Grant Sorenson on the other
end. Meanwhile, Michael breaks into Whitakers office and finds pictures of Courtney,
the Crashdown waitress.
Isabel and Maria pull up to the sign saying "Reds," which Isabel had seen in
her vision. She sees the wrecked car, but there is no sign of Tess. They follow the tire
tracks until they come to an electric power plant, where Isabel gets a strong feeling that
Tess is inside the facility. She tells Maria to wait for Max and Michael, and making her
way inside, badly tears the skirt of her dress.
Max and Valenti confront Sorenson, who says he called Tess to find out what Isabel
would like for her birthday. Michael shows Courtney the pictures he found in
Whitakers office, but Courtney claims that Whitaker only has them because Courtney
was having an affair with Whitakers stepson. Just then Maria drives up, and tells
Michael he has to come with her, Isabel is in trouble.
Back at the power plant, Isabel is breaking into the building by using her powers to
cut through the door. The action catches up to where it was in the beginning of the
episode, ending with Isabel saying, "Its you." The "you" is
Congresswoman Vanessa Whitaker. She tells Isabel that Tess wasnt the one she was
looking for; it was actually Isabel herself. Neither of them looks now the way they did in
their former life, and Whitaker only knew she needed a "hybrid." Whitaker says
she is looking for the Granolith. She and her kind cant exist on Earth for more than
50 years, since they dont have the DNA, they only have their skins. Isabel helped
them before, she says, and will again, then admits that she killed Nasedo to save Isabel.
Isabel is confused, so Whitaker elaborates, telling her that Isabel used to be Vilandra,
and she was beautiful, even more beautiful than she is now. For the love of a man, she
betrayed her brother and her whole family, and that history repeats itself. Isabel screams
at Whitaker, accusing her of lying, then grabs Tess to try to escape, but Whitaker knocks
Tess back down to the floor with one hand motion. She demands once again that Isabel tell
her what she wants to know. Isabel and Whitaker battle, and Whitaker claims she will
destroy them all. Sparks fly as Whitaker tries to kill Isabel, but Isabel uses her powers
to push the sparks back on Whitaker, and Whitaker explodes just as Max, Valenti, Michael,
Maria, and Liz rush in. Max tells Isabel that shes getting stronger, that nothing
will come between them; Isabel tells them about Whitaker mentioning the Granolith, then
asks to be alone for awhile.
She goes to the cave where their pods were found, and cries, wondering why her mother
hasnt come back since the night of the hologram. She tells her mother it is her
birthday, and she is eighteen, and they should be together. She asks how her mother could
tell them these things about their destinies, and saving their world, and then disappear?
She asks about the things Whitaker said, and how could they be true? Did she betray her
people? Isabel is so upset that she takes her shoe and throws it at the pods, which
creates an opening through which a bright light appears. She crawls up to it, and suddenly
a sliding door opens, and inside is a strange cone-like structure. Isabel whispers,
"The Granolith."
