A man is using a metal detector in the desert; he locates something and starts to dig. Cut to Max, apparently seeing a therapist. In his head, he tells the doctor of his problems, repeating the highlights of the first season on Roswell in the process, but in reality, he reveals nothing.

Meanwhile, Isabel and the others are watching television where Nasedo-as-Pierce is testifying before a government committee about the spending for the "special unit." Alex comments that they should have nothing to worry about anymore since Nasedo can now put an end to the special unit, but Isabel replies that they still have their enemies to deal with. On television, Congresswoman Vanessa Whitaker is testifying, telling the committee about a murder victim on which a silver handprint was found, plus the presence on the body of a substance called Cadmium X, which doesn’t exist on Earth. But Nasedo/Pierce insists that Cadmium X has been proven to be a hoax.

Later, in the Crashdown, Alex is still trying to get a date with Isabel, this time to a showing of "One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest." But Isabel brushes him off yet again and asks him if he can find out as much as possible on Cadmium X. Seeing that Alex is clearly disappointed, Isabel reassures him that it’s not him, it’s just that she can’t be with anyone right now…any guy. At that very moment, a man enters the Crashdown, and approaches the table. It is the man who was seen digging in the desert at the start of the show. He introduces himself as Grant Sorenson, and there is clearly a bonding moment between him and Isabel. He asks where he can find the sheriff’s office, and Isabel asks him, smiling, why he’s looking for the sheriff. Sorenson replies by pulling an excavated bone out of his knapsack.

Sheriff Valenti tries to dismiss Sorenson’s findings, but his deputy is insistent that a crime has been committed. Michael makes a trip out to the desert to the site where the bones were found, and comes across what looks like a tissue-thin glove, but as he picks it up, it dissolves into dust.

Isabel and Max discuss whether Grant Sorenson could be an imposter, and Isabel decides to check it out. She goes out to the desert site to see Sorenson, who is surprised to see her. She asks him why he’s come to Roswell; he replies that he has been hired by a corporation to check the area for radioactivity.

When an overeager deputy in Valenti’s office has the bones that Sorenson found tested, they are found to be human, which interests Congresswoman Whitaker. She takes possession of the bones. Nasedo/Pierce comes back to town and reveals that he has been having an affair with Whitaker to better keep an eye on her. When Nasedo finds out that the bones have been discovered and Whitaker has them, he seduces her so that Max and Liz can search her office. They look for any details on Cadmium X, which Max explains is a by-product of using their alien powers. Liz suggests they check out the Las Cruces University medical center, so Isabel, Max and Tess take a trip to the facility. There, Isabel charms a security guard into leaving his post so that Max can enter the facility. While Tess uses her powers to control the minds of Whitaker and the others who are about to perform tests on Pierce’s bones, Max slips in and manipulates the molecular structure of the bones. Thanks to Max’s intervention, the bones now appear to be older than they actually are, and any evidence of Cadmium X has been erased.

Later, in his room, Max is about to go to bed when Nasedo appears at his window, badly wounded and bleeding. As he collapses into Max’s arms, he groans, "They’re among you now…the Skins," and dies.
