As Max and Tess spend some time sightseeing from the top of the Empire State Building, Lonnie and Rath meet with Nicholas, who appears from out of a subway access, complaining about how much he hates New York. Lonnie is annoyed because he’s late, but Nicholas ignores her and asks where Max and Tess are. Nicholas can’t believe that the Roswellians are out wandering the streets of New York by themselves, since without Max, the summit leaders won’t give Lonnie or Rath the time of day. Rath argues that they’re half of the Royal Four, but Nicholas scoffs, saying they’re Royal Rejects – they were placed in the sewers of New York to incubate, while the Roswell aliens were carefully protected in New Mexico. Lonnie reminds Nicholas that he won’t get the Granolith without their help, but Nicholas retorts that they won’t get off Earth without the Granolith.

Later, Lonnie and Rath lead Max and Tess down into the dark underground tunnels of the sewer, to show the Roswell aliens their "crib" – a collection of beat-up furnishings, plus the pods from which the New York aliens were hatched. Lonnie, sitting on a ratty sofa, says, "It ain’t quite Mayberry, is it?" Max wants to discuss the summit, but Rath brushes him off. Wielding a hockey stick, he slams balls in Max’s general direction, until Max catches one in mid-air, when the two come very close to getting into a fight. They are stopped by Lonnie, who drawls, "Boys…don’t make me get off this couch." She comments that Max is so much like Zan, then asks if Max and Tess have had sex yet, which causes Rath to howl – literally. "Alien sex, baby. Accept no imitations!" he leers. Lonnie tells Max he’s going to have to pass a test with an emissary to prove he’s the real king, then ignores anything else he has to say by wildly making out with Rath on the sofa. Max and Tess look on uncomfortably.

Back in Roswell, Isabel and Michael sit in the Crashdown discussing Max. Isabel talks about how she hasn’t heard from Max in two days, and how upset their parents are because Max would rather go "camping" than spend Thanksgiving with his family. Maria tells Liz about a rumor she’s heard at school – that Liz and Kyle slept together. Instead of denying it, Liz says it’s true, to Maria’s shock and disbelief. Later, Liz is concerned to find Ava sleeping outside in the alley behind the Crashdown.

In New York again, Max is led through the darkened tunnel to the emissary, where he passes the test, proving he is the genuine king. Rath explains that the emissary is not really an alien; he’s a human whose body is being borrowed and used as a vessel for a representative from one of the other planets. Back in the "crib," Rath says that they all can only go back to their home planet if Max cuts a deal at the summit. Their planet is at war because Khivar stole the throne from Max’s former incarnation, and now is hated among the people of his planet. Consequently, he will do anything to bring peace about. Max is stressed, and says he won’t go anywhere without Isabel and Michael. Lonnie claims that they want the Royal Four, not the Royal Seven, then says it will all work out…unless they bring up the granolith again. She asks Max if he's ever heard of it, but he claims he hasn't.

At the Crashdown, Liz is awakened by screams; Ava has dreamed of Rath getting killed. Liz talks with her about how Max healed her when she was shot, and Ava looks stunned. Isabel finally receives a call from Max, and tells him how upset their mother was over his not being there for Thanksgiving. Max asks her how she would feel about going back to their home planet, and Isabel responds by saying it’s crazy. Max claims he needs an answer now, but Isabel says she needs time to think about it. Max argues with her, calling her "Vilandra" and talking about the time when he confronted her. Isabel is confused, and Max angrily hangs up.

In the Crashdown, Isabel interrogates Ava, asking why Lonnie impersonated Isabel. Ava claims not to know, and Michael loses his temper. Liz starts to cry and pleads with Ava, telling her that if Max is in danger, they have to know, because she loves him. Ava confesses that Lonnie and Rath killed Zan, and they're probably going to kill Max.
