| In this episode, Isabel
decides to help out her tentative new human friends when Lizs Grandma Claudia, who
has come to town to visit her family, has a stroke and is hospitalized. Shockingly enough,
Isabel agrees to wait tables at the Crashdown so that Liz can stay at the hospital,
despite the fact that, as she puts it, shes "not really a service-oriented
person." Max can hardly believe his eyes when Isabel comes into his room dressed in
the Crashdown uniform, and can hardly believe his ears when she encourages him to go be
with Liz, who had called earlier and left him a message about her grandmother. At the
Crashdown, Isabel turns out to be a great waitress: smart, sassy, and fun
not to
mention the fact that shes able to heat coffee and burgers in a pinch. Even when her
cliquey friends imply that Isabels coolness is called into question by her Crashdown
stint, Isabel somehow manages to retain her dignity -- nearly impossible to do in a
Crashdown uniform. Because of her sacrifice, Liz and Max are able to spend important
moments with the gravely ill Grandma Claudia.Judith Gerber |
