Taking her now-familiar position at the chalkboard, Maria recaps events for us, telling us Liz is now convinced that aliens are responsible for Alex’s death.

Inside the Whitman house, Liz and Maria are helping Mr. Whitman go through Alex’s room. Liz is suspicious when she finds a condolence card from Alex’s host family in Sweden, since Mr. Whitman didn’t tell them of Alex’s death. Despite Maria’s concern the morality of it, Liz searches on Alex’s computer for clues until she finds a locked file. Maria gives her Alex’s password ("I The Stud"), Liz unlocks the file, and the screen scrolls with the same sentence repeated over and over -- "Leanna is not Leanna."

Max confronts Liz about her saying aliens had something to do with Alex’s death, but Liz refuses to apologize. Max says Liz isn’t being careful, and reminds her that they’ve always agreed to do things as a group. Max then admits he doesn’t believe Liz’s theory that Alex was murdered. Later, Liz tells Maria that the binary code on the receipt Alex signed had 20 ones and zeros, and the sentence "Leanna is not Leanna," with the spaces and letters, also has 20 characters. Liz believes there is a connection.

Isabel, Max, Michael, and Tess discuss the Liz situation. Max tells the others that Liz is obsessed with Alex’s death, and keeps asking questions about it. Isabel wonders if it’s occurred to anyone that maybe Liz is right. "I’m the last person who wants to remotely consider this, but it’s us. Stranger things have happened," she says. Max refuses to consider that, insisting once again that Liz is wrong. Isabel then brings up the subject of her going to college in San Francisco, adding that she’s gotten letters of recommendation from her teachers, and it’s a good chance for her. Max stares at her coldly, but says nothing. "Some people would say ‘Congratulations’," Isabel says. Max simply replies that they’ll talk about it later, and walks away with Tess. Isabel, standing with Michael, watches him walk off. She shakes her head, laughs bitterly, and rolls her eyes in disgust.

Max and Tess sit upon the bed in Tess’s room. For some bizarre yet unexplained reason, Max is massaging Tess’s bare foot as they discuss their "infamous" (as Tess calls it) prom kiss. Max says he fears being with Tess that way, because then he could never go back. Tess surmises that Max is afraid to go home to their planet. Meanwhile, Liz goes to the DeLuca house and weasels Sean into helping her break into the school Guidance Office. Despite his qualms, Sean helps her; Liz makes copies of Alex’s school records, but just as they are about to escape, they are caught by the school security guard.
