A black-clad intruder who, despite his ski mask, is obviously Grant, breaks into Michael’s apartment, apparently searching for the pictures of both Laurie and her grandfather, who was Michael’s human DNA donor. Later, Grant is stopped by Valenti and Agent Duff, and questioned about his car rental receipts, a pair of black gloves in his car, and some mysterious scratches on his neck. Grant claims not to know what the deal is with any of these things.

Meanwhile, Michael and Maria are in Tucson, still trying to figure out a way to rescue Laurie and foil her greedy, evil aunt and uncle. They break into the mansion, where Michael finds Laurie curled in a fetal position on her bed, but are quickly escorted off the premises when Laurie’s aunt and uncle discover them.

And finally it’s time for a scene with Isabel, who sits with Max, Tess, and Liz in the Crashdown, discussing Larek-as-Brody’s warning to get off the planet, which has now been infected by the Gandarium. Suddenly, Brody appears, sliding into the booth with them and informing them that he is once again Larek. He tells them that the Gandarium are a genetically engineered life form used as a bridge between alien and human DNA, when constructing an alien hybrid. But a rare number of humans possess a flaw in their genetic structure, and when infected, allow the Gandarium to become a universal virus which will infect every other human on the planet. Laurie is one such human. Larek also explains that the Gandarium resemble bees in that they have a hive and a queen. If the queen dies, so do they all. Max decides they need to go out to Frazier Woods and dig up the blue crystals.

Back in Tucson, and working on a hunch from Maria, Michael and Maria discover records that indicate Laurie actually owns the estate, left to her by her grandfather, which is why her aunt and uncle had her committed. Maria and Michael present the evidence to Aunt and Uncle Evil, who have no choice but to allow them back into the mansion.

Alex and Kyle, having apparently been recruited into the digging party, shovel dirt and whine about the indignity of it all. Suddenly, Alex hits a soft spot and the earth opens up to reveal a cave beneath, filled with the blue glowing Gandarium crystals. Instead of being sensible, Kyle decides they need to explore the cave, and down they go. Of course, once they’re in there, the crystals close up the opening and now they’re trapped underground. Kyle uses his cell phone to call the others aboveground, who have just discovered the two missing. Max, Tess and Liz begin digging furiously as Isabel runs off to attempt to find better digging equipment at the UFO Center.
