Isabel and the others lead a hurt and dazed Max out of the facility, to meet up with Liz and Valenti, who have come to try to help them. Valenti suggests that they leave separately, then meet up and hide out in an abandoned silver mine. Isabel gives Max some clothing, and with Pierce and his men in hot pursuit, they all take off, with Liz and Max in Maria’s car. When the Jetta’s back window is shot out by pursuing agents, they abandon the car just before it explodes.

When Max and Liz fail to show up at the mine, Valenti and Michael go out to try to find them. They see Max and Liz running on foot with a van chasing them, and Michael uses his powers to stop the van. Valenti now realizes that Michael is also an alien, and Max admits that Isabel is as well.

Inside the mine, Isabel, Tess and Michael are discussing what to do, when Max comes down into the room and says they’re going to think about it. Max decides they need to fight Pierce; he thinks they are stronger than they realize. Outside, Valenti listens to his police radio and hears Pierce talking about the 6 kids and himself being on the run. Pierce mentions checking up on Kyle, and Valenti now fears for his son’s safety. They all head into town, and by working together, manage to throw off the agents long enough for Max to enter Valenti’s house. He knocks out a government agent and seals him in a closet, to Kyle’s shock and confusion.

Valenti confronts Pierce at the Sheriff’s office and tells him he wants to help him, but leads him instead to Max and Michael, who tie up Pierce. Isabel uses her powers to walk into Pierce’s thoughts in order to locate Nasedo, who was left behind at the facility. Although Isabel discovers that Nasedo is dead, Tess reminds them that they can bring him back with the help of River Dog’s stones. Unbeknownst to any of them, Kyle has followed them, and Pierce, taking advantage of the situation, persuades Kyle to untie him and give him the gun. In the ensuing battle, Kyle is wounded by his own father, Pierce is killed when Michael uses his powers against him, and Max saves Kyle.

Isabel helps to recover the body of Nasedo so that they can perform the ritual and bring him back. Nasedo then assumes Pierce’s identity so he can infiltrate the government agency tracking them. They use the orb communicators and produce a hologram of Isabel’s and Max’s mother, who tells them that all four aliens have lived before, with Max as their leader. Isabel and Max are indeed brother and sister, Tess is Max’s bride, and Michael is Max’s second in command. She tells them their essence was mixed with human genetic material and sent to earth to protect and raise them until they could once again come back to their home planet and save their people. After the hologram ends, Liz breaks up with Max, and the four wonder what they will do, as communicators are set off all over the country, and somewhere in New York City, another alien says, "It has begun."
