Isabel lies sobbing on her bed as Max enters the room. "What if I said I wanted to stay?" she cries, but Max tells her that Earth isn’t his home, and whatever’s out there isn’t his home, but Isabel is his home. Later, they make a farewell videotape to their parents, and Isabel is visibly shaken.

Max goes to pick up Tess, and when he kisses her, she sees that he kissed Liz. She says smugly that he won’t remember her where they’re going. The Royal Four plus Valenti watch as Michael sends Max’s jeep flying in flames off a cliff. Valenti bids them all goodbye, telling Max it was an honor to know him.

Inside Maria’s house, Liz and Maria commiserate, when they suddenly hear Amy DeLuca talking to herself about "Larek." Amy taps her fingers, and Liz realizes it’s the same way Kyle tapped his fingers on the table, and Alex tapped his on his guitar. She deduces that Tess mindwarped Alex. They go to Kyle’s house, but Kyle insists he would remember if he was mindwarped. Kyle begins tapping his fingers, but suddenly has a vision of Alex. Alex, crying, says that Tess mindwarped him so that he would decode the alien book, but now his mind is destroyed, and there’s nothing left for her to mindwarp. When she tries anyway, Alex falls dead on the floor. She then mindwarps Kyle to make him think he’s carrying her duffle bag, as he puts Alex’s body into the car for her. Kyle tells Maria and Liz that Tess killed Alex, and they take off for the Granolith chamber.

Inside the chamber, Michael says he can’t go…Earth is his home. They all hug, and Max gives Isabel the opportunity to bail out, but Isabel reminds Max that he’s her home, too. Michael exits the chamber to find Maria, Liz, and Kyle outside. They quickly tell him that Tess killed Alex, and they all hurry into the Granolith chamber. Liz tells Max that Tess mindwarped Alex to decode the book, then killed him when he broke out of the mindwarp. Kyle backs her up, saying he was mindwarped, too. Max orders everyone out, and faces Tess alone. He asks her if she killed Alex, and she admits she did. Tess screams, "What matters is getting home, but you could never understand that could you? I might have been able to teach you but that stupid BITCH had you wrapped around her..." Max angrily sees now that she had a plan all along, to get pregnant and return to their planet, and Tess admits that Nasedo made a deal with Kivar 40 years ago that she would get pregnant and turn Max, Isabel and Michael over to him. Max raises his hand to kill her, but Tess reminds him that if he kills her, he kills their son. Max tells her to go, and adds that this isn’t over yet. He exits the chamber to join the others, and they all run when the chamber erupts. The Granolith device rockets out into the sky, bearing Tess with it. Isabel asks, "What happens now, Max?" Max says he has to save his son, and they all look towards the direction in which Tess’s ship has disappeared.
