IRC Client Configuration - Part 2

Index | 1 | 2

Using an IRC client to access the chatroom:
  1. Click the Connect to IRC Server button to connect to chosen Fleetchat server. After you connect, you will see a list of channels:

    mirc-2.gif (5496 bytes)

  2. Choose the #katherine channel. If it is not on the list, you will need to add it. Alternatively, you can type /join #katherine from the command line (no space between the "/" and the beginning of the line!)

Servers

Occasionally, one of the servers in the fleetchat network will become unavailable. If this occurs you will need to connect to an alternative server if you wish to access the chat channel. The available Fleetchat servers are:

rogue.fleetchat.org IP Address: roguedk.dyndns.org
bedrock.fleetchat.org IP Address: 65.68.37.185
destiny.fleetchat.org IP Address: 209.178.198.94

A new server profile can be established for each of these servers in the manner described previously. Ensure that each profile is assigned a different description so that it is clearly identifiable in the server list.

If you are chatting in #katherine and would like to register your nickname so that it is unique to you, type /msg NickServ REGISTER passwordofchoice.

Subsequently, when you log in to #katherine you will be prompted for the password you have just selected. If you fail to identify your nickname by typing the password you will be automatically "kicked" from the channel.

There are many commands available in the IRC environment. The best place to find a complete listing is in the help file included with mIRC or Ircle.
