Katherine was first thrust into the limelight as a child model. An aunt, visiting the family in New Canaan, took a number of photographs of her niece, then aged 9 - in series of poses to advertise a hair care product she had invented. Upon returning to New York, with permission from Katherine's parents, she sent the photos to a number of modeling agencies. Her stunning looks were an immediate hit and within a few weeks Katherine had been signed to Wilhelmina, a renowned international modeling agency.

Almost immediately, she made her debut in a magazine advertisement and was soon earning $75 an hour posing for Sears and Lord & Taylor catalogs. An inaugural television appearance in a national commercial for Cheerios breakfast cereal followed and Katherine auditioned for a number of television shows including "As The World Turns" and a sitcom about a mother and daughter which starred Cindy Williams.

That Night King Of The Hill My Father The Hero
After a number of commercials, modeling assignments and movie auditions, an 11 year old Katherine was cast in "That Night" (1992), which starred Juliette Lewis, C. Thomas Howell and Eliza Dushku.

It was then that she realized that acting rather than modeling was her passion. Katherine recalled during an interview in 1995 for US Today that she always enjoyed acting and "loved to make believe and imagine. With my friends we loved to play house and playing secretaries or being doctors."

In 1993, Katherine appeared in Steven Soderbergh's critically acclaimed depression era drama "King Of The Hill" before landing her first leading role as a rebellious teenager Nicole alongside Gerard Depardieu in "My Father The Hero" (1994).

The audition for "My Father The Hero" was a gruelling process, but Katherine beat a number of young actresses to the role, including Alicia Silverstone. "That took a lot of auditioning – two times in New York and two times in LA. They decided on me for the part about a week before the filming started!"
