Katherine Heigl will both star and executive produce Netflix’s upcoming series adaptation of Kristin Hannah’s novel Firefly Lane. Based on the 2008 bestseller, the series will tell the story of two women, Kate Mularkey Ryan and Tully Hart, and their friendship of over 30 years.
Katherine will play Tully, a force of nature still bearing the scars of a traumatic childhood but whose saving grace is her best friend Kate, with whom she shares an unshakable bond. However, when an unthinkable betrayal breaks them apart, the pair goes their separate ways and it’s unclear whether they will ever be able to reconcile.
Maggie Friedman (Witches of East End, No Tomorrow) is adapting the novel and will serve as showrunner. She will also executive produce the show with Katherine, Stephanie Germain and Lee Rose. Writer Hannah is also a co-exec producer. Peter O'Fallon (UnReal) will direct and executive produce the first episode.
Firefly Lane will represent the third adaptation of Hannah’s novels currently in production, with The Nightingale and The Great Alone both on the slate at TriStar Pictures.
