Many of you have been sending messages and posting on Katherine’s social media sites requesting updates on Walter, whose sad story we shared yesterday.

Katherine Heigl and the Jason Debus Heigl Foundation would like to thank everyone who sent in generous donations to help with Walter’s medical treatment and for the wonderful words of support received over the last 36 hours.

It is with a heavy heart that we have to report that Walter has passed over the rainbow bridge.

A Message From JDHF Co-Founder Nancy Heigl

It is terribly sad day for all the Heigls, for Dave Whitney (his special Angel) and all those who loved and tried to help Walter. This morning we were forced to make the horrible decision to let Walter go. In spite of some extraordinary efforts at the emergency center where we took him for treatment, the infection that he contracted at the facility in Longmont was so advanced by the time we were notified, that in spite of everything we tried to do to save him, we could not.

We are all heartbroken. Very sadly, this last fight was not one that he could win. We are so grateful to all of you for all your prayers and good thoughts sent his way. I somehow know that Walter felt them and knew he wasn’t alone. For a dog that never had the good life he deserved, this last week, he had thousands of people praying and hoping for him. That meant more then any of us can imagine, to him, and to all of us. As we send Walter on his way, we now pray that this next world will be better to him then this one was.

God Speed Walter. We have loved you and wish we could have kept you longer. You are a very, very good boy!
