Penny’s Progress
We have been inundated with requests for an update on the health of Penny, the three year old dog that the Katherine's Foundation rescued recently from a life of horrific abuse and neglect, whose story we first reported last week.
Veterinarian Dr. Stan Kunin, who has been caring for Penny reports that she has responded well so far to her treatment but still has a long road ahead. She has been doing very well with her food, vital to give her the strength to fight the infections in her body and help to address the muscle atrophy in her legs.

Penny is certainly a fighter and we are keeping our fingers crossed that the antibiotics will help with her infections and that she will make a full recovery. We shot a video of the adorable pup over the weekend and the wounds from where her jaw appears to have been wired are still visible.
Walking remains a struggle for Penny and although she has started to recognize staff, she remains extremely fearful. Anyone wishing to support Penny's recovery and contribute to the cost of her medical care can do so using our online donation form.

To keep up with the latest news regarding Penny please check the Jason Debus Heigl Foundation web site, Facebook or Twitter pages.
It breaks my heart to read about the neglect, but am really happy that this dog is getting a chance at life. Animal cruelty is tragic.
