American Cancer Society Honor
The American Cancer Society will honor Katherine at Variety's 4th Annual Power Of Women Luncheon on October 5th. She will be the recipient of the "Celebrating More Birthdays Award" at the event, which will also see Halle Berry, Jessica Biel, Felicity Huffman, Queen Latifah and Warner Bros. Sue Kroll honored for their respective charity and philanthropic work.
"The American Cancer Society is proud to honor Katherine Heigl for inspiring women as a role model, as a support giver during her mother's cancer journey, and as a voice celebrating the strength of all women," said David F. Veneziano, Executive Vice President, American Cancer Society of California. "She models our mission of creating a world with less cancer and more birthdays for everyone."
Katherine’s mother, Nancy, has become a role model to her and inspired her to speak out on behalf of other women with cancer. Her public support of her mother's cancer experience has helped amplify the awareness of cancer related issues and the actions every individual can take to assist those with cancer, and to treat and even prevent the disease. 50% of Americans will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime and the American Cancer Society works closely with the Entertainment Industry to communicate how to save lives from cancer, and diminish the suffering of those touched by the disease.
Each year, Variety honors a select group of women in entertainment who, through their efforts, have made a significant difference to their chosen causes and 450 invite-only guests made up of Hollywood insiders come to celebrate, support and pay tribute to the philanthropic efforts of these amazing women.
The Power Of Women Luncheon will take place at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills on Friday, and will feature Variety's Philanthropy Bazaar, which provides an interactive area for guests to engage with the featured charities and participating brand partners. The goal of Variety's is to inspire and encourage people from all walks of life to get involved, give back and make a difference.
