Katherine To Produce & Star In The Knitting Circle For HBO
Katherine Heigl is set to star in the movie adaptation of Ann Hood's best-selling novel, "The Knitting Circle". In her first collaboration with HBO, she will also produce the movie with her mother and producing partner Nancy Heigl via their Abishag banner. Pine Street Pictures will also produce.
HBO Films has optioned the rights to the best-seller which will be scripted by Dirty Sexy Money creator and award-winning playright Craig Wright. This marks Wright's return to HBO where he started his TV writing career on Six Feet Under, earning both Emmy and WGA nominations for his work.
Katherine will play Mary Baxter, the central character in Hood's semi autobiographical novel, about a mother mourning the death of her young daughter and struggling to overcome the grief that jeopardizes every aspect of her life, including her marriage. The book tells the tale of how she begins to find her way back into the world through a knitting circle and the stories its members share.

I’m happy that The Knitting Circle will be a film. Ann Hood’s moving and inspirational novel deserves the best. Looking forward to the finished product.
I’ve been a fan of Ann Hood’s for over 20 years, since her first book, “Somewhere off the Coast of Maine”. My heart broke for her when this personal tragedy came her way. I’m so happy The Knitting Circle will be a movie, and you are the ideal actress for the part of Mary. It will be a huge success, I’m sure! (And I will then forgive you for “Knocked Up.”)
I have enjoyed you in all you endeavors – including “Knocked Up” – which made me laugh. Even though I don’t know you personally you seem to lead a good life and you are a positive role model for some many girls and young women. Good luck with this new project. Looking forward to reading the book and seeing the movie.
