Katherine Heigl has joined the cast of New Line Cinema's "New Year’s Eve" replacing Halle Berry in the ensemble comedy. The movie follow the lives of several couples and singles in New York as they intertwine over the course of New Year's Eve.

Production starts on the Garry Marshall directed picture this week with a cast that includes Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer, Sarah Jessica Parker, Hillary Swank, Jessica Biel, Ashton Kutcher, Lea Michele, Zac Efron, Josh Duhamel, Sofia Vergara, Ice Cube, Jon Bon Jovi and Abigail Breslin. Warner Bros. will distribute the movie.

Katherine is set to play a caterer who is forced to work on December 31st serving a party attended by her former boyfriend, who is now a famous rock musician. The musician will be played by Jon Bon Jovi.

"New Year's Eve" is scheduled for a December 9th release and will be produced by Mike Karz and Wayne Rice from a script by screenwriter Katherine Fugate.
