How Romance First Blossomed
Earlier this week Katherine sat down for an interview with iVillage where she revealed how romance first blossomed with husband Josh Kelley when they met on the set of his music video. She also spoke about daughter Naleigh, her new movie "Life As We Know It" and how she would like to pitch a comedy to Angelina Jolie.
Check out an extract from the interview below and visit iVillage for the full story and chat.
What’s been the most surprising thing about becoming a mom?
I think you know that you’re going to love this child, and you know it's going to change your life. But you don’t really know on an emotional level how much you’re in it. I’ve never experienced love on this level before. We try not to treat her like the second coming, but even when she’s at her worst, there’s just this great ocean of love. It's wonderful and thrilling but also terrifying to love someone that much.
Is it true that you're planning to move to Utah?
Yeah, I think we are. It's such a different experience - we can just be ourselves and be a family, and not be watched while we do it. I think it’s a much more quiet life. But we’ll see. Ask me in a year after we’ve moved there. With a little time I’m sure we’ll be like, "Let’s go back to L.A. because there’s way better restaurants there!"
How did Josh win you over when you first met?
We were doing the music video, and by the end of the day we had sort of connected. We went out for dinner with the producers and director of the video, and then I went up to his hotel with him - this sounds so tarty, but his manager was with us - and we just started talking. He asked me about my six favorite things: like my favorite cut of meat, my favorite flowers, my favorite dessert. It was a total line, but at the time I so charmed by the fact that he wanted to know things about me. I figured it out months later, like, "Oh my god, he totally read that in some book like How to Pick Up Women." He still to this day claims he was genuinely asking, but I think it was a line.
Do you miss Grey’s Anatomy at all?
I do. I miss the characters, and I miss my friends and all of that. Every once in a while I wake up and think, "I’m used to going to work right now," or "What would Izzie be doing if I were still on the show? Would she and Alex (Justin Chambers) have worked it out?" That’s actually the one thing I’m most concerned about is Alex. How could she just totally never speak to him again?
Who would you love to work with in the future?
I really want to pitch a comedy to Angelina Jolie because I really think she’s super-funny. I saw Mr. & Mrs. Smith again recently, and she’s fantastic in that. I totally want to play the ridiculous person to her really awesome person. I’m not sure she’d be down for it, but it never hurts to ask!
