Highway Of Hope
The Best Friends Animal Society "Pup My Ride" rescue program saves at-risk, small-breed dogs from Los Angeles shelters by transporting them to communities where the demand for small dogs is high but the supply is low.
Every two weeks between 20 and 30 pups are rescued and transported to Utah, in a unique partnership between Best Friends and the Humane Society Of Utah. The journey is made possible by the generosity of the Jason Debus Heigl Foundation, which was founded by Katherine and her mom Nancy and provides financial assistance to both rescue and transport the dogs to their new home.
The video below takes a look at the "Pup My Ride" program and follows the pooches as they make their 600 mile journey to a better life. So far more than 1500 dogs have made the trip and found new forever homes in Utah.
